8:25 p.m.: A tenant at Custer’s Valley-Hi Apartments reportedly flooded their bathroom. This and other matters surrounding the person were found to be civil rather than criminal in nature.

Hot Springs museum features Hargens

The Pioneer Museum has received nine new paintings by artist Charles W. Hargens, Jr. The museum has also received five new paintings by artist Beulah Donnell.
In addition to Hargens Jr. and Donnell, the museum honored the art of Robert Gossell at the Grand Reopening of the Pioneer Museum’s fourth floor July 13.
The roof of the Historic 1893 Schoolhouse museum was replaced this summer, making it once again safe to display art in the gallery. New electric roof vents were installed to help cool the upper floors of the building.

Judicial emergency rescinded by courts

The South Dakota court system has rescinded a judicial emergency sparked by a state communications outage that lasted more than 24 hours.
The outage made it impossible for court employees to access court records and court schedules, file documents or take electronic payments for fines. The emergency declaration suspended deadlines across the state.
The state’s network began to come back online Wednesday afternoon.

Month of Caring kickoff Sept. 5

Be part of a community that cares during the United Way of the Black Hills’ (UWBH) Month of Caring this September. 
In the Southern Hills—which includes Hill City, Keystone, Rochford, Hermosa, Custer, Pringle, Hot Springs, Edgemont and all the little communities in between—the Month of Caring kickoff event is Friday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. Attendees will gather at the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, located in the former home of the Custer Ace Hardware, to learn more about UWBH.

5:58 p.m.: A tourist from California called 911 to report a bison was standing all alone in Wind Cave Park and that it “just didn’t look like it belonged there.” The lonely bison probably just needed some time to itself.

Studebakers return to Custer Aug. 31

Five decades of automobile history will be on display in downtown Custer when members of the Studebaker Drivers Club (SDC) gather for their annual, free outdoor show Sunday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Visitors to the show are invited to vote for their favorite car or truck.
