Wednesday, Oct. 2
6:17 a.m.: A disorderly dude was described as disturbing a Hermosa truck stop. Deputies arrived to find a 55-year-old transient male who refused to leave the place, saying he was “Satan” and that he wasn’t leaving until “John the Baptist” showed up. Saint John never arrived on scene and deputies were forced to use a TASER device to subdue the male, who kicked both deputies during the struggle and was eventually taken to jail for a stack of charges, including assaulting law enforcement officers.     

10 years ago, 2014 — The Town of Hermosa was in the initial stages of a study that could end with three-phase annexation of land outside of the town’s borders. The first area of that study was Fairgrounds Place Road east of town, which would bring 18 properties into the town limits. Eventually, annexation would also bring parts of Hwy.

Friday, Sept. 27
7:45 a.m.: Someone knocked down a stop sign next to Howard  Street in Pringle. This is apparently not the first time. The “someone” responsible for the damage must not have enough work or hobbies to occupy their time.     

10 years ago, 2004 —  Water and sewer rates were set to go up in the City of Custer, after the first reading of the proposed raises was approved by the council at its regular meeting Monday night. Water rates were to rise $1.06 per 1,000 gallons used—a 13 percent increase for residential users and a 6 percent increase for commercial users on the minimum bill. A minimum bill for 2,000 gallons used woould now be $8.96, with $6.31 added to a user’s bill per thousand gallons used over 2,000 gallons.
