Where does the time go?

I began my day just like every other with some quiet reflection time. I have a bit of a routine that involves reading, journaling and meditation. It’s my “alone time” and I look forward to it every day. 
I opened an old notebook this morning, looking for a place to write down some of my thoughts. And I found a list that was titled: 50 new things in 2020.
I have to confess, there were only 32 items listed. I read the first one: Pingora.

By the time you read this, you have probably worked off your Thanksgiving feast!  For those of you that spent the day alone or feeling less than thankful this year, my heart goes out to you.  Lord knows I have been in the same place more of my life than I care to admit.  

Meetings, meetings and more meetings

Greetings! I hope everyone had a blessed thanksgiving. Now onward through the advent season to Christmas. Marcia and I just got home from a sing-along with the various Hill City churches hosted by the Little White Church. It was very well done and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all. And there were cookies too!

Thanksgiving before Christmas

A part of me wants to dive into the Christmas spirit. Decorations are going up left and right in Hill City, and there’s no place I would rather enjoy the holiday cheer. 
Last week Hill City’s Christmas events were compared to a Hallmark movie, and I couldn’t agree more. After watching way too many Hallmark Christmas movies over the years, it’s special to be a part of one. 
The local Christian radio station has already played a few Christmas songs to see what listeners want to hear this season, and now jingly tunes are getting stuck in my head.

Greetings! Hey, Tim, anything going on in Pierre? Naw, not much. Not. Probably more than ever before!
First off, our very popular governor has accepted a position offered by President-elect Trump to be the next Homeland Security secretary. Hooah hooah! What a great honor for her and all of us South Dakota citizens. I’m just getting started.

Time to de-stress

How are your stress levels? 
Growing up, my parents were actively involved in politics and campaigning for candidates in Minnesota. Naturally, I helped my parents where I could by walking in parades, handing out stickers, going to events, delivering pamphlets and putting up signs. My parents taught us kids about the significance of getting to vote, and we stayed up late every election night watching the results come in live. 
However, in all my years of watching elections, I’ve never seen one cause this much anxiety. 

We need your attention now please

Sandwiched in between election season, which has thankfully ended and Christmas season, which is about to begin, is what I am referring to this year as “needs your attention” season. 
Because if Pennington County residents don’t focus a bit of their attention locally they may not be able to afford to have any relaxing seasons again.
The Black Hills National Forest (BHNF) is trying to institute  fees year-round in areas that are currently free. And time is running out for you to comment. Want to launch at Pactola in the spring? It will cost you. 

Just a little bit better

We’ve all heard the sayings, “A little bit goes a long way,” and “Slow and steady wins the race.” They are great reminders for the days when we’re moving slowly and feeling burnt out. But some days, inspirational quotes aren’t enough.
Slow feels too slow, and a little bit never feels like enough. After plodding along for what feels like forever, we just want to see tangible progress. Or if possible, we want to see some incredible improvement.

I have one word to say this week.
Vote.
I don’t care who you vote for. 
We likely don’t agree on all the issues or some of the candidates.
Yet I really want you to vote. Each and every one of you registered voters who read this column. 
Please.
Cliche tells us it’s our “right” as citizens. I say it is a privilege that not all U.S. citizens get …I sadly know a few people who have felonies from DUIs or youthful “mistakes” that prevent them from being able to cast a vote.
