Girlfriends are gonna party like it’s 1999

The 13th annual Hill City Girlfriends’ Weekend is taking place Nov. 7-9, and with the 1990s theme, it’s an opportunity to show off a grunge style, listen to some boy bands and enjoy all the great Main Street merchants of Hill City.
Angie Ross, one of the event organizers this year, said Hill City Girlfriends’ Weekend is the one event that the downtown merchants group puts on that does what it’s supposed to do: bring people from out of town into town to see how “awesome we are.”

Hill City seniors support veterans gift shop

Making spirits bright. That is exactly what the Hill City Senior Citizens set out to do for the upcoming holiday season. The organization once again led a community-wide effort to collect gifts to benefit veterans at the Hot Springs VA Medical Center.
Chaired by Pat Forrer, the charitable initiative gathered gifts, wrapping materials, gift cards and cash donations to support the American Legion Auxillary’s (ALA) pop-up Christmas Gift Shop. The shop allows veterans to “shop” for Christmas presents for their loved ones at no cost.

Volunteers needed to light up Hill City

In an effort to light up Hill City for this holiday season, Pete Stach is asking for volunteers for the second phase of the light service project, hanging the lights. Lights need to be strung on street poles along Main Street.
A meeting will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, at 9 a.m at the Hill City Center to line out the project and volunteers. A boom lift has been donated for one weekend to help with the initiative.

The Haunting of Keystone returns

Grab your friends and find your courage, the Black Hills’ favorite haunted attractions are back for the 15th annual Haunting of Keystone. 
With three spooktacular locations, each with its own bone-chilling theme, attendees are sure to find something to get their heart racing and make their blood run cold. 
Location one is Rushmore Cave at Rush Mountain Adventure Park five miles east of Keystone where the theme this year is Upside Down, a “spin off of ‘Stranger Things,’” according to April Hagen, business manager of Rush Mountain.

— The Hill City Rangers girls cross country team overcame cold and snowy conditions at the state meet and won the Class A state championship at Hart Ranch Oct. 24. In addition to that, freshman Abby Cutler was the individual champion for Class A ... Hill City Rangers volleyball easily put away Custer High School during their match Oct. 20. The Rangers were able to cruise to a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-13, 25-11) thanks to some good play all around.

Phase II of Downtown Hill City Lighting project Oct. 25

Despite the cold, rainy morning, 25 community members showed up at the Visitor Information Center  (VIC) to help untangle Christmas lights for the Downtown Hill City Lighting project. The group sorted 75,000 lights in two and a half hours. 
There are now 8,425 feet of LED lights ready to wrap the 47 old-fashioned light poles that stretch from the Little White Church to Krull’s Market in Hill City.
