‘Let’s Talk About ADHD’ March 31

“Let’s Talk About ADHD,” the senior project of Eva Studt, will take place Thursday, March 31 at the Custer Jr./Sr. High School Theatre.
Those who attend will gain a better understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and what to do about it to benefit you and your children or students.
Guest speaker will be psychologist Mark Perrenoud, and his presentation will be followed by a question and answer time.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and open to the public.

First aid training to be offered

Minutes may mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering a medical emergency. With that in mind, a Custer High School senior is organizing a first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) course for the public this weekend.
Czech Republic foreign exchange student Adela Marakova is offering the course this Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Custer Ambulance headquarters at 1105 Montgomery Street. It will instruct participants in basic first aid, how to correctly administer CPR and how to use an AED. The cost to each participant is $25.

­­­­­­­Three year old Brixton Miner of Custer has had a fascination with garbage trucks practically since he could walk. He has several garbage truck toys which are his favorites and he and his little brother Bridger look forward to the arrival of the garbage truck at their home every week.   
“He’s always looked forward to seeing the garbage man on Mondays,” said his mother Michaela, noting that it makes his day to watch the garbage can being dumped into the big truck.

New contests planned for show

The 59th annual Western  Family and Consumer Science Show  will be held Oct. 8-9 at the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City.
The board of directors is planning some new contests for the event. While this is called a show, it consists of various contests for developing life skills that 4-Hers,  all  youth including youngsters under age 9, and adults may particate in. New this year will be a non-competitive cookie decorating contest, graphic design poster contest for next year's show and a Lego design contest.  

Winners announced at 'Les Animaux'

On Saturday, Sept. 18, the fourth annual Les Animaux Charity Art Show closed with an artists’ reception and award presentation. Art Expressions Gallery and Gifts hosts this fundraiser to benefit Battle Mountain Humane Society (BMHS) and this year the $1,300 was raised. Accepting the donation on behalf of BMHS was Connie Gieser and Sam Goelz.

Ellman a semifinalist for merit scholarship

Custer High School senior Miles Ellman has been named a seminfinalist for the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
He will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring. 

The making of a homecoming

Pep rallies, parades, royalty and rivalry sports games: all major parts of the high school tradition that most people know as homecoming. A time for students and community members alike to come together and celebrate their school spirit. That same school spirit will continue no matter the obstacle.

New building, new principal in Hermosa

Hermosa’s new school has additional classrooms, a state-of-the-art playground and a spacious corner principal’s office with large windows that will eventually look out on the student drop-off/pick-up area on the south side of the building once the project is complete.
The school also has a brand new principal to occupy that office.
With the resignation of former principal Lori Enright last spring, the district had to look for someone to take her place. It didn’t have to look far.
