I hope everyone had a great Independence Day celebrating the birth of this great country, The United States of America. Whoa. Almost puts chills down your back, doesn’t it?
Last week was a week for the ages, almost epic!  What happened? Well, on July 1, “Fox and Friends,” the TV show, came to little ole Peggy’s Place, a cool little restaurant in Keystone. I arrived at Peggy’s Place around 3:15 a.m. and the spot lights were already set up outside of the restaurant.

I have received many emails and phone calls asking about marijuana and how soon will people be able to get it.  Below is an attachment of an article that SD Rep. Kevin Jensen wrote and I wanted to share it with all of you. Please read it carefully as you may want to reconsider your choices. I agree with Kevin, self-defense is way more important to me. I am asking the newspapers to print his story to update all of you on this issue.

Greetings! Still greener than green at our house; got two inches of rain the other night. We hope and pray this last moisture blast continues east across South Dakota.
I had the privilege to speak at the home dedication for Lacy Piazza of Hot Springs. This was a gratifying experience because Lacy got into a Governor’s House in conjunction with the Black Hills area Habitat for Humanity.

My husband and I love South Dakota. Transplants from Minnesota, we thought we would end up back there one day, at least when we retired. But here we are 45 years later in South Dakota, loving the people, the beauty of the Black Hills, the climate, the town we live in—this has become home.

Greetings! It’s officially summertime, like we didn’t know by the unseasonable high temperatures. It’s still surprisingly very green in the Hills. I guess the wet spring snows and timely rains have made the difference. We did get hail the other night at 3:30 a.m.: lots of it and I was afraid it would break the skylights in our home. Fortunately, no damage was done to the skylights. I haven’t been on the roof yet to see how the shingles look.

Whew! What a great week for America! I know the national news is depressing and getting more and more depressing all the time. It all reminds me of that old Hee Haw song, “Gloom, despair and agony on me.” Last week’s depressing item was having the Keystone XL Pipeline getting the final nail in the coffin. It is graveyard dead now.

The state’s newest veteran cemetery

Greetings! I wanted to report back to you about the dedication of South Dakota’s first and only state veterans’ cemetery. Yep, Marcia and I had the distinct honor and privilege to attend the dedication on Memorial Day.  
How did this happen?  What is the back story?  Well, in our great state, we do have a national cemetery located next to I-90 just before arriving in Sturgis, going north from Rapid City. This cemetery is a pristine resting place with the sacred ground of our fallen heroes.

Summertime and fighting complacency

It’s finally summer! I’m sure most of us have been busy with our yards and putting in our gardens. My husband and I had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend last week. We went up to the Black Hills National Cemetery on Sunday and Monday went to the Memorial Service on Monday at Memorial Park in Rapid City. We are so grateful to the men and women who have served our country. Each of us has a responsibility to help maintain that freedom they fought and died for.
