This Friday and Saturday, Hill City will  host the ninth annual Wine Brew & BBQ beginning at 11 a.m., sponsored by the Tin City Masons. Proceeds from these events go to fund the many ongoing community outreaches that the Masons perform each year throughout our area. Event coordinator Emily Wheeler said this event is stacking up to be excellent this year with many, many events and fun times for all who attend as well as those who will be participating.
The events will take place downtown Hill City and events run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.  Contestants from kids to professional barbecue teams will be competing for medals, trophies and cash prizes totaling around $16,000 this year. Most events will occur on Elm street between Main and Pine streets near the Harney Peak Hotel.
On Friday at 4 p.m. there will be a kids barbecue pork competition on the lawn at Hill City Senior Center. At 6 p.m. Friday evening, KEVN will broadcast live from the Harney Peak Hotel. There will be live music each day beginning at 2 p.m., and the headliner for Friday evening will be the Brandon Jones Band out of Rapid City from 5-8  p.m.
This year will boast 34 to 36 professional barbecue teams and 45 certified judges and will begin on Friday. On Saturday, there will be a People’s Choice event for the professional teams with a quesadilla cook off from 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. The amateur Backyard Barbecue competition this year will be ribs that attendees can sample and will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will also be wine tasting and beer tasting going on with vendor barbecue set ups on Elm Street as well. The public can purchase delicious wine, brew, and barbecue all day for both days and enjoy the live music in the afternoons.
