The Custer girls volleyball team ended its season with an 11-15 win/loss record after the first round of Region 8A play against the No. 3 ranked Belle Fourche Broncs last Tuesday night in Belle.
The Broncs beat the No. 6 Wildcats in straight sets to win the right to compete for a spot in the SoDak 16.
“The first set was very rough for us,” said Wildcat head coach Jill Hohn. “After a strong start we languished and let them dominate.”
And dominate they did. The Broncs won the first set by a 16-point margin.
“We came back stronger in the second and third sets and did not go down without a fight,” said Hohn.
The score was not as lopsided in set two which ended up at 25-14 and set three was much closer. The final score was 25-23.
“Belle Fourche has a consistent team with proficient hitters on all fronts,” said Hohn. JoJo Larsen did a nice job adjusting to their hitters and came away with some great digs to help us stay in the last two sets. However, we were not able to get a consistent strong offense going and had too many defensive errors to capitalize on her comeback.”
Larsen had a total of eight digs and also contributed two kills. Ally Cass had eight kills and three digs. Taylor Neugebauer had four kills, Bailey Cass had three kills and Josey Wahlstrom made 12 assists.
