Stephanie Petty

Stephanie Marrie Petty was born Dec. 13, 1978, to Art and Carla (Sands) Petty in Miles City, Mont. Her life started in Montana but she came to life when her family moved to Custer, S.D.
It is in Custer where she made her home and had the opportunity to touch the lives of so many of the members of the community.   In her early years she was able to develop quite a personality and a resilient spirit right along with it. She made it look so easy to find a way into your heart and once she was there you didn’t want to let her go.
Stephanie had a laugh that could light up a room and a smile that could stop a train. It took only one look into her eyes to see how much she loved the people around her. She inspired others to try harder with her strength. She leaves behind so may lessons for us all to remember: how to be happy no matter your situation, to find joy in the simplest of things and no matter how small the package the treasure inside can be so mighty.
Stephanie was passionate about music, books and movies. She loved to get her nails painted and her hair done. She got so many comments on her long-braided hair. But most of all she loved her family more than anything in this world.
Stephanie died peacefully Aug. 28, 2019, with her family by her side. She was 40.
Preceeding her in death were her fraternal grandparents, Artamas Petty and Catherine Kranzler, as well as other family members.
She is survived by her parents, Art and Carla Petty of Custer; brothers, Josh (Erin) Petty of Box Elder, S.D., and Mathew (Debbie) Petty of Rapid City, S.D.; sister, Amanda (Brian) Connolly of Custer; nephews, Christopher, Ethan, Jasper and Xander; niece, Samantha; maternal grandmother, Louella Lankford of Wheatland, Wyo.; maternal grandfather, Harold Sands of Pittsburg, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will take place at 25549 Sidney Park Road  in Custer (Petty Ranch) Sept. 7. The open house/potluck will be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The family requests you make a donation to the Shriners hospital in lieu of flowers. Shriners helped the family with the care of Stephanie and they would like to pay it forward. If you would like to do so, you can drop your donation off to Carla and Art and they will make one donation or you are welcome to make your own donation.
