Public urged to attend flood recovery meeting

Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) officers have been named and committees have been formed as aid for the 24 identified Aug. 2 flood victims moves closer to reality.
Custer Senior Center director Jill Kettle has been elected to chair the LTRG committee. Co-chair is Carrie Moore, Lisa Bausell is secretary and treasurer is Laurie Arthur.
Nearly $17,000 was raised locally for flood victims up to this point and grants have been applied for to assist flood victims.
The public is invited to a LTRG meeting Thursday, Oct. 17, from 1-2 p.m. at Custer Senior Center to learn how they can assist in the recovery efforts.
“We request organizations, businesses and individuals interested in contributing to the efforts to help those in need to attend the meeting,” said Kettle
“We are all anxious to be able to start using the funds that have been raised to help those in need due to the Aug. 2 flood,” Kettle said. “At this meeting we will discuss the next steps to do just that,” she said.
“On the advice and guidance of the Red Cross and S.D. Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (SDVOAD), the group has created a draft structure to ensure the money and future efforts are used fairly and most effectively,” Kettle said.
Plans, established committees and next steps will be discussed at the one-hour meeting Oct. 17.
Disaster Case Manage-ment Committee chair is Pam Power, public relations/communications chair is Charley Najacht, Emotional and Spiritual Care Committee chair is Neal Magnuson, donation management chair is Donna McConnell and  Resource Development Committee temporary chair is Laurie Arthur.
A volunteer manage-ment/construction management chair has yet to be named, but both Bob Reich and Keith Glover have agreed to serve on this committee with Todd Pechota acting as an advisor.
The local group has been guided by Lisa Adler, Adler Disaster Consulting, Groton, and Bausell, local consultant, who has experience in disaster recovery planning.
