Mark Bauer

Dr. Mark Andrew Bauer, PhD, was born to Roland and Jackie Bauer April 2, 1986, in Westerly, R.I.
At 3 months old he moved with his family to West Milford, N.J.
As a child growing up in this bucolic rural town he was able to be involved in, and was passionate about many things—from sports, to music, to academics, to mentoring younger kids, to developing a relationship with Jesus. He approached everything with determination to succeed, even if it turned out differently than he expected.
Having been born with an autoimmune disorder, Mark’s life was always challenged with health issues. He learned to adapt and push through at an early age, which made him tenacious in pursuing whatever he put his mind to. He lived up to his name:  Mark = “Mighty Warrior” and Andrew = “Strong, Mighty.”
In so doing, he always had a soft spot for others who also struggled in some way.  He was quick with an encouraging word, even if it was a loving challenge to a friend who needed a swift kick in the gluteus maximus.
His love for music, especially contemporary worship music, lead him to pursue learning to play drums, piano and guitar. Playing the drums became his passion, which led him to play on several different worship teams over the years.  Needless to say, the Bauer home was filled with “sound,” which led to the need for extra insulation in the basement practice room.
His other great love was baseball, not to mention hot dogs. He played in leagues from childhood through his high school years, and as often as possible during his many years of college. As a Yankees fan, he went to games in New York City whenever possible, visited numerous ballparks around the country or regularly watched them on TV. He was an encyclopedia of baseball facts and statistics.
Academically, his goal was to complete a PhD in BioMedical Engineering, which he had written about while in high school. With his health issues over the years, that life goal took him longer to achieve than he desired.
Along the way, he earned a bachelor of science in biology from Ramapo University and a MS in BioMedical Engineering from Florida State University.
On Dec. 10, 2022, Mark was awarded his PhD in BioMedical Engineering from the University of South Florida. From his work he authored or co-authored eight publications in the field of age-related hearing loss. Well done, Mark!
Not only has Mark graduated from three universities, he recently graduated from the school of life. On Feb. 22, 2023, after a prolonged time of hospitalization, the Lord Jesus sent angels to invite Mark to join Him in heaven, where he is free from a body that held him captive. He is now free to worship before the Throne of Grace and reconnect with loved ones who have gone before him! He was 36.
We all will miss him on this side of heaven, more than we can describe. Yet, when we know Jesus, the Lord of Heaven and Earth, we can be assured of a family reunion in our future!
Mark is survived by his parents, Roland and Jackie Bauer; his older brother, Eric Bauer;  younger sister, Aaryn (Bauer) Spaulding and her husband Morgan and his nephew Ollin; his grandparents Rudy and Lois Anderson; his Uncle and Aunt, Ed and Shelly Anderson; and several cousins.
