Lynn Moran
Lynn Moran, age 78, of Woonsocket, S.D., died Friday, March 20, 2026, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, S.D. Mass of Christian Burial was March 28 at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial followed at St. Wilfrid Cemetery. Visitation and rosary were 5-7 p.m., Friday, also at the church.
Lynn Ann Moran, together with her twin sister Lea Jane Moran, was born June 26, 1947, to Francis “Red” Moran and Bertha Ritter Moran. The twins were the first of the Moran siblings to be born in a hospital.
Lynn attended elementary school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Woonsocket. She graduated from Woonsocket High School and then received her bachelor’s degree and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Dakota.
Lynn was a practicing attorney in Custer, S.D., for approximately 40 years. During her time in Custer, she engaged in private practice and for a period of time served as the Custer County State’s Attorney.
After Lynn retired from private practice, she moved to Mitchell and represented individuals in Drug and DWI Court. Lynn was a dedicated attorney who was well respected in the legal community. Lynn’s goal in her legal practice was to help others and to make a positive difference in the communities in which she practiced. She was a firm believer in second chances and in always doing the right thing. Lynn will be remembered as a fair, professional and ethical attorney.
Lynn was also dedicated to being a community leader. She was active in a number of different organizations and received numerous awards and recognition for her volunteer work. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of the Catholic Church. Lynn served as a lector, choir member and CCD teacher for the churches of which she was a member. Lynn was also a proud Democrat and volunteered her time and talent to local and state Democrat organizations. She felt fortunate to attend two National Democratic Conventions.
Lynn lovingly shared her life with her large family. She is survived by her brother, James (Donna) Moran of Woonsocket; her sisters, Patricia (Larry) Borgerding of Rolla, Mo., and Mary Carol (Dennis) Gere of Pierre, S.D. Lynn is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Trudy (Dan) Moran of Madison, S.D., and Nathlee (Matt) Moran of Rapid City, S.D.;, her foster son, Colton Thiesfeld, Rapid City; and many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Mathew Moran, Tommy Moran, Dan Moran and Larry Moran; her sisters, Rose Marie Moran, Maggie (Carney) Nelson, Ceceila (Leon) Williams, twin Lea Jane Moran, and Geraldine Moran; her sisters-in-law, Bev Moran and Donna Moran; her brothers-in-law, Carney Nelson, Larry Borgerding, and Leon Williams; her beloved niece, Karen Borgerding Shore; her great-nephew Kory Hendrickson; and her great-niece Kirsten Harless.
