Lois Sherwood
Lois Mary Sherwood, 93, of Hill City, S.D., died July 19, 2022, at Monument Health Custer Hospital in Custer, S.D.
Lois was born July 28, 1928, in Arlington, S.D. She was born to Krestian E. and Helma M. (Dahl) Nielsen. To the union of this marriage included Lois, an older brother, Lloyd, and a younger sister, Donna.
Lois graduated high school in 1946 in Arlington and was the homecoming queen that year. Lois was baptized and confirmed in the American Lutheran Church.
Lois’first marriage was to Elza (Moon) Gussler from March 3, 1952, to October 1953 when he passed from a heart defect.
Lois’second marriage was to Wayne S. Sherwood, (children Ronald and Patricia) Sept. 11, 1959 until his passing Dec. 2, 1997. To this union was born two children, Greg (Marcy) of Volga, S.D. and Mary (Lennie) of Hill City.
Lois lived a quiet and rich life in the family home, which was purchased in 1969, and never wanted to move. She was able-bodied and lived alone in her Black Hills home until she suffered a massive stroke July 4.
Mary’s three boys, Derek, Gage and Ryan, were Lois’pride and joy. Grandma could always be found at all their activities.
Lois will rest at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. with her husband Wayne.
A small service for friends and family was held Monday, July 25 at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Arrangements have been placed under the care of Chamberlain McColleys Funeral Home in Custer.
