Li Fjerestad

Li Fjerestad was born Aug. 11, 1944, in Sioux Falls, S.D., into an industrious and prosperous Norwegian family. She graduated from Augustana College and obtained graduate degrees from the University of Western Ontario.
She traveled extensively, was published in her academic field, taught in three countries and on the Pine Ridge Reservation of South Dakota. She married Gary Williams in 1999 and moved to Custer, S.D.
She was the first woman assistant stack supervisor at the University of Minnesota libraries. She was Girl Friday to the Middle East regional director of the World Bank, an external consultant to the Dupont corporation, a construction worker and a counselor at a runaway house and children’s half-way home.
Li passed away April 1, 2022, in Custer. She was 77.
She is survived by her beloved son, Christopher Lee Dartt; and husband, Gary Lee Williams.
Her huge extended family extends to all humankind. Rest in peace, citizen of the world. Li passionately loved God, her family, her life and her place in history.
A memorial of Li will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23 at  Custer Lutheran Fellowship.
