Hill City’s Easter egg hunt Saturday
This year’s home-town Hill City Children’s Easter Egg Hunt is “egg-stra”-special, according to Hill City Chamber Director Janet Wetovick-Bily.
“That’s because in 2020 we were unable to provide the fun and delight of this event as well as the Boo Bash & Pumpkin Festival. Both were planned; however, like many other things, Covid definitely changed up our schedule,” Wetovick-Bily said. “This year, since we are blessed with a beautiful outdoor space, and since this is, by its nature, an outdoor event where the Easter Bunny scatters and hides eggs far and wide, we’re determined to have a safe, socially-distanced-style hunt.”
The Hill City Children’s Easter Egg Hunt will be held March 27 at 10 a.m. at the Hill City Visitor Information Center. Line-up for the Easter Egg Hunt is 9:45 a.m. and pictures with the Easter Bunny can be taken both before and after the hunt. Easter baskets will be given to children who find the lucky “dotted” egg in each of three age groups: 0-3; 4-7 and 8-11.
When the event was last held in 2019, the weather was fantastic for the 100-plus families and children: Mild, sunny and with dry ground at the visitor center, said Wetovick-Bily.
At this writing, while the weather can change, the forecast is for temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30s, sunshine and clouds mixed, and windy.
Wetovick-Bily added that the entire chamber and visitor information team who produce this event (along with spouses and volunteers), are hoping for good weather, as always.
Should there be snow or inclement weather, Wetovick-Bily said alternate arrangements for distribution will be made in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club and information will be posted on the chamber’s Facebook page.
Following established tradition, this event is held courtesy of the staff of the Hill City Chamber and Visitor Information Center and candy that was generously donated thanks to Member Sponsors Turtletown, Krull’s Market, Candyland/Sweet Greens and Yak Ridge Cabins and Farmstead. Chamber and visitor information center staff furnish the Easter baskets and this year and also filled the eggs with candy — all 1,188 of them.
With the chamber’s emphasis on prioritizing safe visits, families are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, bring a basket and follow best practices for safety, health and social distancing. Masks are optional and hand sanitizer will be available.
“We are looking forward to a great day, happy parents, lots of excited children and a real fun-filled ‘egg-stravaganza’” said Wetovick-Bily. “With the Spring Craft Fair also happening that day, Open Stage that same evening and the Run for the Rangers following on Sunday, it will be another wonderful family-friendly weekend in our Hill City community.”
