Golfers third at Black Hills Conference
The Custer girls golfers teed off at the Hart Ranch Golf Course Monday for the Black Hills Conference Tournament. All told, the team earned third place with combined score of 425, behind Spearfish (378) and St. Thomas More (365). Also placing was Belle Fourche with 457 and Rapid City Christian with 500.
“I’m really proud of them as a team,” said head coach Haley Uphoff. Uphoff said she thought the team did well in the tournament and that it is working on chipping and putting on the well-maintained and therefore faster greens.
Shauna Zacher was the highest placing Wildcat at the conference meet, earning ninth place with a score of 97.
Quinn Lewison followed in 12th place with a score of 106.
Lauryn Robb and Jordyn Uphoff carded 110 and 112, respectively, taking the 15th and 16th spots.
“My top four are all really close. They can all be shooting the same, which makes it really fun to watch,” said Uphoff.
The team also competed at the pre-region meet in Hot Springs last Thursday. Full results were not available as of press time, but the order of placements were STM in first, Custer in second and Belle Fourche in thrid.
Looking ahead, the team will be practicing in Hot Springs to prepare for the region tournament May 20.
“I’m anxious to get them down there and make sure they’re comfortable going into the region tournament,” said Uphoff.
Next, the team travels to Elks Golf Course in Rapid City for a tournament next Tuesday.
