Members of the Flower Show committee for the Hill City Garden Club presented the Hill City Boys & Girls Club with a check in the amount of $523 this year and the third, fourth and fifth grade boys and girls at the Club were excited to receive it, along with Veronica Prautzsch, the unit director for the club.
The check reflects all the earnings from a raffle of items donated to the Flower Show to be auctioned specifically to go to the Hill City Boys & Girls Club. The flower show committee was represented by Merlene Broer, the committee chairwoman, Sherryl Alexander, treasurer for the Garden Club, Hilde Manuel, garden club president, Merle Glenn, garden club vice-president, and Colleen Lewis, all flower show committee members as well.
While the Garden Club has been active in Hill City since the early 1970s, it  began the raffle about five years ago at the annual flower show. Broer said this raffle started with just eight items five years ago, and this year they had 18 items to raffle. Each item is donated from area businesses and as well as participants. This year the raffle items ranged from yard and garden equipment to planters from yard ornaments to a lovely coneflower print from John Crane Galleries. Other local businesses that donated some of the items were The Farmer’s Daughter and Inside Out.
Proceeds from this raffle have always gone to benefit the local Boys & Girls Club here in Hill City. The garden club is able to utilize the gym at the Boys & Girls Club to ready themselves for the flower show each year, and likes to give back to the club and show appreciation. The proceeds this year will benefit the club and the service it provides to Hill City area families and children.
