The Hill City Rangers golf team played in the Black Hills Conference tournament Sept. 20 and placed fifth out of 10 teams.

The conference took place at the Prairie Ridge golf course at Ellsworth Air Force Base.

Coach Josh Daiss explained the fall season outing. “We are a B school for golf, so our season is in the spring. We are allowed to play in the Black Hills Conference being a member school,” he said.

Zane Messick and  team member David Hubacher led the Rangers in scoring. Each athlete shot 86s on the day and tied for eighth place.

Leo Daiss and Adolph Tyler followed with a 103 and 105, respectively.

Coach Daiss admitted the boys were a bit rusty due to lack of practice and the off- season play, but he was proud of the team’s performance.

“I thought we competed well. Zane really played some good golf and David is going to be a solid addition to the team.

“We finished behind two AA schools and two A schools. This would have qualified us for the state tournament in Class A so we are excited and really looking forward to our spring season,” he said.

The Rangers qualified for State last year for the first time in school history.

This is the only golf team outing until Spring. Coach Daiss hints, though, that the “future looks bright for Ranger golf!”
