Evelyn Fisher

Evelyn Luella (Hendrickson) Fisher was born in Custer, S.D.,  Feb. 1, 1921, to Guy Paul Hendrickson and Lillian Madeline Sutliff Hendrickson. She grew up riding horses, reading, sewing, cooking and in other ways helping as the oldest of eleven children.
Evelyn was shy but loved people, enjoyed quiet but didn’t want to miss anything. She was deeply interested in and so proud of her family, not just for what they did but for who they are. She kept the birthdays of every relative and friend on her calendar and was mindful of them. She kept clippings, letters and cards and took photos of flowers given to her. Her many photo albums, carefully done and much revisited, tell of her desire to keep her people near.
She enjoyed reading anything, especially mysteries, biographies and the dark novels of Daphne DuMaurier. She spent decades researching and sharing alternative medical information which helped many. Her chokecherry jelly, apricot jam, orange marmalade, orange coffeecake and caramel rolls were legendary. She, like her beloved husband, Art, was delighted by collecting and telling jokes. She had an inner freedom to explore and try, which led her to spend many happy hours building a brick patio floor and fire pit, make large snow sculptures in the yard, learn to paint with various media, take trips and try interesting foods. She enjoyed time with friends and family, watching movies, being at home or happily joining in or trying anything new and interesting. She loved music, any kind, but she danced when listening to Tom Jones or Jose Feliciano. She was hilariously mean at cards, committed to caring about others, fair minded and kind.
She met and married the love of her life, Arthur Frederick Fisher, in 1947, and they were happy partners for almost 71 years. They began their life in Custer, then moved to Laramie, Wyo., for 19 years, and Phoenix, Ariz., for 50 more.
Evelyn, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, peacefully left this world to join her beloved April 30, 2021, at home in Phoenix. She was 100.
She was preceded in heaven by her husband, Arthur Fisher; parents, Guy and Lillian Hendrickson; brothers Everett, Alden (Slim), Robert and Edwin (Eddie); sisters, Dolores, Eloise, Joyce, Derelle and Margaret.
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Leola (Johnny); her children, Roy  (Mari) Hendrickson  and Diane (Greg) Walter; grandchildren, Jason (Erin) Hendrickson, Brenden Hendrickson, Rhea Plaisted, Kate (Eric) Velez, and Kelly (Ryan Bren) McCleary; great-grandchildren Justine (Austin) Wagner  and Jiselle Plaisted; and great-great grandchildren Zaiden Wagner and Aisley Wagner.
Evelyn, with Art, has created a legacy of love and family, and of kindness and forgiveness. She will be interred together with Art at Keystone, S.D. cemetery.
She should have written a book!
We love you, Evelyn. We love you, Art.
