After placing second in the 220-pound weight class at last weekend’s regional meet Hill City’s Tanner Davis is going to the State Class B wrestling championships. Davis will be the sixth seed at the championships and has a 17-6 record.
The road to the state championship will require Davis to first take out Herman Frisvold of Lemmon-Mcintosh.  Frisvold has a record of 23-20. The two seniors most recently were on the mat together at the Black Hills Classic where Davis easily defeated Frisvold in 45 seconds.
Davis is hoping to go “kick some butt this weekend and hopefully bring home the title.”
Davis is approaching this tournament like he has all the others, focusing on fun and doing his best, although he does admit to trying not to “freak myself out with the nerves.”
Davis knows he has as good a chance as anyone to win the state title.
“The top 10 wrestlers in my weight class wrestle the exact same so I think really anyone could win the state championship,” he said.
Davis has had numerous second place finishes this season and has lost several of his matches on decisions. He is an avid student of both his own ability and those he competes against.
“I’ve been trying to just review everything I am good at,” he said.
Davis also knows that ultimately it’s not just about  ability. It’s also about his faith.
“I am good at keeping my faith strong and wrestling to my best ability and remembering that in the end it’s God’s plan and if his plan involves me being a state champ that would be amazing,” he said.
