David Capps

David “Dave” Dwight Capps was born to Jack and Mary (Fawcett) Capps March 25, 1952. He grew up at the Fawcett ranch on Beaver Creek Road in Wyoming.
After graduation in 1970, Dave attended Casper  (Wyo.) College.
Dave began his career with the Forest Service in 1971. He worked on the Elk Mountain District fencing with Frank Crawford, marking trees with Kenny Sallee, thinning timber with Earl Hamilton, surveying with Keith Ellerton, fighting forest fires with Jake Baumgartner and other work as needed.
In 1974, Dave met Jane Snell, who was the Elk Mountain lookout. They were married Aug. 29, 1975. They have two children, Nicole Fawcett Capps and William Michael Capps. Dave was always quite proud of and loving to his children.
Dave and family lived in Salem, Ore.; Custer, S.D.; Alamogordo, N.M.; and Laramie, Wyo.
In 2007 Dave returned to Newcastle, Wyo., to help his mother, Mary, who was living alone on the family ranch. He worked for the state Highway Department and Wyoming State Forestry as a master mechanic. He greatly enjoyed his jobs with the state, largely because of the excellent people he worked with. Dave retired in 2017.
Dave died May 18, 2021, of a heart attack. He was 69.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack; mother, Mary; brother, William B. Capps; and good friends John Reimer and Bill Kohlbrand.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Nicole (Kashif Rehman); grandchildren, Yareli, Jairus, Cappel, Sylvan, Rugby and Basil; son, William M. (Seiley) Capps; great-granddaughter, Paisley; brother,  Mike (Jan) Capps; and numerous cousins.
