The Hill City High School Ranger boys golf  team traveled to the Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown to compete in the Class State B Golf Tournament June 5-6.
The Rangers fired a 270 total, tying for 13th place after Monday’s first round.
“David Hubacher played well on Monday, it was a bit of a struggle for the others on Monday,” said coach Josh Daiss. “After the round, we went out to dinner as a team and were determined to put that behind us and move onto day two.”
But Tuesday was kinder to the Rangers and the team improved over their Monday score by 20 strokes, carding a team total of 250.
This vaulted the Rangers into the top 10, finishing ninth overall, with a tournament total of 520.
Individually the Rangers were led by Hubacher who finished his high school career with a strong ninth-place finish and a total of 162.
Zane Messick’s bounce-back Tuesday took him into 30th place and a total of 172.
Leo Daiss ended up 76th after carding a two-day total of 186 and Breylon Rahn 89th with a 193.
“I was proud of the way the kids bounced back on day two after a disappointing day one finish,” said coach Josh Daiss. “We are excited that we were able to improve over last year’s finish and hope to keep climbing up the leaderboard in the years to come.”
Daiss recognized the efforts of   graduated senior David Hubacher.
“David was great for us all season and he is going to have a nice career golfing at the college level in Vermont next year,” Daiss said. “We are excited to get on the golf course this summer and look to continue to keep building the program and enjoying the game.”
