Girls fall to RCC, look forward to Sundance

The Hill City Girls High School volleyball team fell to 18-6 on the season with a loss to Rapid City Christian Sept. 28.
The Rangers won set one 25-20 then lost three straight, 25-21, 25-14 and 25-20.
“We came out with great energy and determination in the first set against RCC, and I think they were a little taken aback. The remaining sets were close but when playing a strong team like RCC, every point matters,” said head coach Allie Henderson.

Rupert wins Rapid City meet

In the middle of the homecoming parade, the Hill City High School cross country team showed its Ranger pride by competing at the Rapid City Area Schools Invitational Cross Country Meet. 
“Both the girls and the boys looked a little tired this week which is pretty normal for where we’re at in our training cycle,” said head coach Joe Noyes. “We’re training for the state meet not the Rapid Invite.”
Even so, with 139 other boys competing, Luke Rupert won the varsity 5K with a time of 15:35.56. 

Rangers defeat Miller

The Hill City Rangers Football team is having a winning season, standing at 3-2 after a decisive win against Miller-Highmore-Harrold. The Rangers defeated Miller by a score of 44-12.

Rangers fifth at Black Hills Conference meet

With no time to practice, four members of the Hill City Rangers golf team played in the Black Hills Conference Championship Sept. 19 at Hart Ranch outside of Rapid City. 
This tournament is outside of the Rangers’ normal season, but they are allowed to play as a Black Hills Conference school. 
“It was good to get out there and compete. It’s always fun to compete against the bigger schools,” said coach Josh Daiss. 

Girls win invitational

The Hill City High School volleyball team is the Belle Fourche Invitational champion.
The girls defeated Lead-Deadwood, New Underwood and Belle Fourche to get to semifinal action where they easily defeated Custer 25-14 and 25-19.
Advancing to the finals, the girls took on Beulah, N.D., beating them in two sets, 25-19 and 25-17

Three Ranger girls place in top four

Half the Hill City High School varsity cross country competed at the Lyman Raider Nation Invitational Cross Country Meet in Presho Sept. 16. This was a smaller meet on a flat, fast course. 
Head coach Joe Noyes said races like these are good for the athletes because they see different competition and sometimes determine different race strategies. 
“The ladies performed very well. We had three girls in the top four,” said Noyes. 

Rangers defeat Sturgis, Jones County

The 10-5  Hill City Rangers Girls Volleyball team finally come home for a Tuesday game after a long stretch on the road. The Rangers faced off against Lead-Deadwood last night. Results were not available before press time.
Head coach Allie Henderson is thrilled with how her team is playing. 
“I am happy with how the girls played. It can be difficult to play to your level at all times but they had some really great moments and took advantage of the leads to try some new things out,” she said.

Rangers defeat Tatanka, eye homecoming

Ranger football fans have an opportunity to see their 2-2 team play at home this Friday in what will likely be an exciting game against Miller-Highmore.
The boys are coming off a 30-0 win against Lakota Tech. Head coach Brett Eckert says he knew the team had to shut down the Tantanka’s best players to keep them from gaining momentum.

After loss on road, Rangers looking for win

The Hill City Rangers football team lost on the road against Sioux Valley by a score of 53-0. The boys are now 1-2 for the season.
Head coach Brett Eckert described Sioux Valley as a “very good team” thatis undefeated so far this season.
“Being down 20-0 at half against the number two team in the state showed that we are moving in the right direction,” Eckert said about the game.

Girls continue play on the road

The Hill City Rangers girls volleyball team is now 7-5 on the season after a “good showing” at the Monument Tournament this past weekend. The team went 3-2 in the tournament, with both losses coming against Stevens High School.
“We’ve had a tough schedule so far with most of our losses to AA schools, and even those were close games that could have been wins had we played our best game,” said head coach Allie Henderson.
Henderson doesn’t like to see the girls give up a close match.
