Sheriff's Log June 24-27

 Thursday, June 24
1 p.m.: A deputy assisted fire units in locating a possible wildland blaze north of Pringle. The report turned out to be false.
3:14 p.m.: A very minor two-car collision was reported on the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park. No injuries happened there.
2:16 p.m.: A deputy cruised the downtown Custer area looking for trouble after a 911 open-line call came from there. No trouble was found.
3:20 p.m.: Deputies checked the welfare of a person at Comanche Park Campground. The person appeared to be all right.

Gold Discovery Days parade marshals were Dave and Joyce Hazeltine and Marge Baldwin ... Karl Von Rump came to the county commission with a litany of complaints, mostly about construction noise, concerning his neighbor, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

7:06 p.m.: A loose dog was reportedly running around a downtown Custer grocery store. A deputy arrived just in time to see the owner pick up the pooch.

Successful opioid treatment slow to catch on in state

South Dakotans battling addiction to opioids are increasingly relying on medication-assisted treatments to overcome their cravings for the dangerous drugs and to avoid potentially deadly overdoses.
However, access to the life-saving medications is limited in South Dakota and some physicians in the state are reluctant to prescribe the drugs that have shown great promise in overcoming opioid abuse. Meanwhile, addiction experts and some law enforcement officials are trying to break down barriers to wider use of the treatments.

Weather and flooding were blamed for a slow start to the tourism season. 10:37 p.m.: A deputy booted an illegal camper from their spot in the middle of Mica Ridge Road.
11:55 p.m.: A mountain lion was reportedly prowling around a campsite at Bismarck Lake. A deputy located the suspected lion, finding it to be a large housecat.
Sunday, June 13
The 911 Misdial of the Day: A person attempting to dial a long-distance number somehow got a local one—the 911 emergency line, to be exact.

‘I love you, you’re perfect’ is perfect

The Black Hills Playhouse’s second summer show, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is a hilarious intimate show that  delves into the intricacies of men and women as they navigate dating, marriage and relationships after divorce or the death of a spouse. Billed as a musical revue, the lyrics are witty, if not at times so accurate, as to leave you hysterically laughing.

Gov. Noem, ‘Fox & Friends’ come to Keystone

Reporter Lawrence Jones of “Fox & Friends” came to Peggy’s Place in Keystone to speak with Gov. Kristi Noem as  part of the “Breakfast with Friends” segment to discuss  the changes to Mount Rushmore’s July 4 and current newsworthy events.
About several dozen supporters and fans of Jones and Noem also came out, including 12-year-old Taya Skogen, who was treated to a round of “Happy Birthday” led by Noem.
“I’m a big fan,” said Skogen. “The biggest. She kept our state open. She cut out extra unemployment. It’s as good as if Donald Trump would have shown up.”
