Entries sought for GDD flower show

Gold Discovery Days will once again include the Caroline Hatton Flower Show, and your entries are needed.
Hatton was a long-time Custerite, avid gardener, Custer County Master Gardener, and a founding member of the Custer Mile High Garden Club. The flower show is dedicated to her memory. Garden club members loved the guidance and enthusiasm she willingly shared with family and friends.
The free, no-fee show is held at the Custer Senior Center. The show is open to everyone, of any age, who wishes to submit an entry.
Entries will be accepted  Friday, July 17, from 9  a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Judging takes place from noon until 2 p.m., Friday, July 17. Public viewing is Friday, 2 -5 p.m., and Saturday, July 18, 9-11:30 a.m. Persons may pick up their entries from 1-2:30 p.m., Saturday. 
There are three classes of entries. Class One is cut flowers with 25 different lots of cut flowers, Class Two is floral arrangements with eight various lots, and Class Three is potted plants with eight distinctive lots.   Each entry is judged against the flower’s standards, not against the other flowers entered in the same lot. 
At the end of the judging, the judge will select the top entry for each of the three classes and prizes will be awarded.
Adults and youth are judged separately. Blue, red, and yellow ribbons will be awarded. There will be a special prize for judge’s choice as well.

Included with the rules are helpful guidelines, such as  stems should be uniform in size, shape, and type, and remove foliage from stems that will be below the water line in the vase or cut flowers.
