Sentinel donates to Hill City Angel Fund

Hill City Sentinel Federal Credit Union recently donated $250 toward the Hill City School District Angel Fund. The Angel Fund is used to help cover the school lunch deficit for those who need assistance, making sure no child goes hungry.
The National School Lunch Program that provides free and reduced lunches is an income-based, nationally-funded program requiring an annual application with household income details.

Powerful windstorm leaves many in the dark

Dozens of people came to charge phones, charge medical devices, use the internet, grab a hot meal or coffee or even use the restroom at the Keystone Senior Center as the town and outlying areas were without power since the windstorm came through at 3 a.m. the morning of Dec 18.
“That’s what the senior center is for,” said treasurer of the Keystone Senior Center, Karen Boland.
Town Board president Casey McNulty kept people abreast of the potential for power restoration via the Keystone Happenings Facebook page.

Pavillion at Ponderosa Park takes shape

Work is underway, and phase one of the new Pavillion at Ponderosa Park, located near the Visitor Information Center on the west end of town, is nearing completion. Following initial dirt work, the concrete base has been poured and the walls erected.
“The plan is to be completely done before Friday,” said park board member, Cassandra Ott.
The board is now awaiting bids for phase two of the project, which will be reviewed in January. Phase two includes the installation of steel uprights and roof framing.

Alumni basketball game returns Dec. 27

Hill City basketball fans are invited to step back onto the court and into the stands for the Hill City High School Alumni Basketball Games Saturday, Dec. 27. 
The ladies’ alumni game tips off at 3 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4:30 p.m.

Karim to be inducted into hall of fame

She never did it for the credit and doesn’t really want it, but Karen Karim of Custer is being honored as an inductee in the South Dakota Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association (SDCCTFCA) Hall of Fame in 2026. 
Karim started running AAU track when she was around 8 years old. Throughout junior high and high school at Rapid City Stevens, Karim competed in track and cross country under the coaching of her dad, Ken Linstrom.
